Storm Water TMDL Plan

Creek

The City of Aumsville is required by DEQ to manage stormwater throughout the city.  The TMDL ( Total Maximum Daily Loads) was put into place because the Willamette Basin (the watershed the City of Aumsville is in) doesn’t meet water quality standards and has pollutants that can cause harm to fish and wildlife in our basin.  We monitor 3 categories of pollutants and they are temperature, bacteria, and mercury.  With DEQ guidance we have developed ways to try and reduce the amounts of each of these categories of pollutants that enter our waterways.

Trees

Several City programs are in place like the street tree program, pet waste stations, and tree plantings in our parks and greenways are items that are required to reduce pollutants identified in our TMDL Matrix.

You will see pet waste stations, signage in the park for picking up after pets, and several garbage bins placed throughout the park and walkways to reduce the number of bacteria that enters our waters.

Mercury is something that is found in our soil and often enters streams and waterways from erosion of soil.  The matrix outlines ways we will try and reduce erosion, like requiring silt fences on projects that disturb soil.  Public Works annually cleans catch basins in the city that accumulate dirt and debris throughout the winter.  We also have a regular street sweeping schedule and annually remove more than 100 yards of material from the streets of Aumsville.
